About Tony Gill

I am a British guy in my mid-forties living in Brooklyn, New York, with my missus Lori Ann and our 2 year old daughter Vivienne.

Holiday Greetings for 2012 from Tony, Lori Ann and Vivienne

L-R: Lori Ann, Vivienne & Tony

Professionally I am employed as Global Director of Library Science & Information Management with Enfatico | AdPeople Worldwide, an advertising agency within the Young & Rubicam Group — which in turn is part of the WPP Group. My job involves the application of library science principles to effectively solve global enterprise digital asset management challenges (note that this website is purely personal, and not connected in any way to my employer — see the Disclaimer section on About this Site for more information).

I am also the Chief Digital Officer for a luxury luggage brand called J. Panther Luggage Co., where I take care of all things digital for the brand.

Prior to working in digital asset management, I spent 15 years helping museums, libraries and archives share their digital knowledge online — as a leading practitioner, as a standards developer and evangelist, and as an educator.

There’s more information about my professional background in my online curriculum vitae. I’ve also written quite a few articles on topics relating to my line of work, most of which are listed on my publications list.

I have a Master of Arts degree in Communication in Computing from Middlesex University, and a Bachelor of Science (with Honours) degree in Physics & Philosophy from King’s College, London. I was also enrolled on a PhD program at Kingston University for a while, but abandoned my doctoral research when I moved to the U.S. in 1999.

I have two sisters (Sharon & Vicki), one brother (David), five nieces (Madeline, Lisa, Jasmine, Isobel and Sophie) and three nephews (Rowan, Robbie and Kaelen), all of whom are younger than me.

I am also a decompression baby.

In addition to New York City, I’ve also lived in San Francisco, London, Cambridge, Sheffield and Letchworth.

I like music, reading, cinema, photography, travel, snowboarding, beer, wine and cars. I don’t like Citizens United, excess corporate influence in the political process, Anglo-American imperialism, waste or flagrant disregard for the environment. I am a member of Greenpeace UK.
