I was surprised (and surprisingly pleased) to hear that London has won the competition to host the 2012 Olympic Games this morning, beating Moscow, New York, Madrid, and the bookie’s favourite, Paris.
I wonder if the recent peurile remarks by Jacques Chirac about British & Finnish cuisine had anything to do with the decision?
what Chirac obviously forgot was that he was in Singapore, the former British colony, where you can get as good a rosbif dinner as you can anywhere in London.
The delegates might also have had pause for thought, as they walked by the riverside of a night and saw the huge scale of industrial and commerical development, that all the French former colonies are economic basket – cases, and that the Brits just might have a little bit of organizational flair, after all…:)
