Both of my sisters, their families and a number of my friends live in Sheffield, South Yorkshire in England, and today my little sister Vicki sent me a link to images of the severe flooding the region has been experiencing lately.
Apparently one elderly man died when he was “washed away” while getting out of his car, and even the pitch at Hillsborough, Sheffield Wednesday’s football ground, is under water!
A 14 year old kid was killed as well, washed away in Millhouses Park. All five of Sheffield’s rivers burst their banks to some extent, the Don being the most inundated.
The Wicker and Brightside Lane turned into rivers for about twelve hours or so from about Monday late afternoon.
Helicopters were pressed into service to rescue people from the roofs of works in Attercliffe. I noticed from the news pictures several of my customers getting winched away.
needless to say, I took the day off.
Its at least two weeks after the river Don burst its banks and its still raining in Sheffield, in fact has not really stopped!
Thumbs up for the great British Summer.
Its at least two weeks later than when the river Don burst its banks and it is still raining!!
